Bitcoin studies go mainstream as Spanish university opens master’s course

The University of the Hespérides has introduced a fully online Master’s degree taught in Spanish, focusing exclusively on Bitcoin. The program begins on April 28, 2025, and is intended for professionals across economics, law, engineering, and related sectors. According to an official release, the new degree combines legal, philosophical, economic, and technical elements in a single structured course.

Program targets practical and foundational Bitcoin knowledge

The Master’s degree seeks to foster a wide knowledge of Bitcoin’s evolution, technology, and worldwide relevance. The program covers various fundamental subjects, including the economic structure of the protocol, legal frameworks, business integration, and its underlying philosophy.

Álvaro D. María, the director of the program and author of The Philosophy of Bitcoin, said that the academic offering seeks to address knowledge gaps. The program intends to equip professionals with skills required to interact responsibly with Bitcoin.

Juan Ramón Rallo, Dean of the Undergraduate School, stated that Bitcoin represents a major monetary shift. He added that Hespérides University considers the program essential for addressing future challenges involving currency and individual freedoms.

Curriculum features: interdisciplinary modules and expert instruction

Key issues about BTC will be covered by the program, and the targeted topics will comprise its standing among digital assets, the technological tools enabling it, and how regulatory frameworks affect its use. Additionally, it will focus on the specific skills needed across firms involved with Bitcoin.

The course format includes masterclasses, case reviews, and interactive seminars. These are led by specialists active within the Bitcoin industry. Lecturers include Kristyna Mazankova, Manuel Polavieja, Kilian Rausch, Manu Ferrari, Sergio Fernández, and the educator known as Decentralized.

The program’s development is backed by several organizations involved in Bitcoin research and advocacy. These include BTC Inc, Jan3, BTC Consulting 360, NegociosTV, ‘Watch Out, Bitcoin’, and the Institute of Philosophy and Economics of Bitcoin.

International students as well as working professionals are welcome in the Master’s programme. Its online format guarantees academic depth and professional relevance even while it offers flexibility.
