Japanese public company Metaplanet bought 1,234 BTC for about $132.7 million at an average cost of $107,557. The new acquisition increases the holdings of Metaplanet to 12,345 Bitcoin, which are currently worth just over $1.332 billion altogether.

Until June 25, 2025, the company is among the world’s top corporate holders of Bitcoin, surpassing Tesla’s 11,509 BTC. According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, Metaplanet now owns the seventh-largest corporate Bitcoin reserve in the world.

The firm remains close behind CleanSpark, which currently controls 12,502 BTC in its corporate Bitcoin treasury portfolio. The company revealed that it paid 15.6 million Japanese yen or about $108,000 per coin for this recent transaction.

Bitcoin’s price was $108,150 during the announcement, showing a 1.4% increase over the previous 24-hour trading period. Metaplanet recently announced it would commit up to $5 billion in capital toward future Bitcoin purchases and expansion. The board of directors approved this capital contribution to help accelerate the company’s bold “555 Million Plan.”

Metaplanet Plans 201,112 Bitcoin Acquisition by 2027

Under this strategy, Metaplanet plans to acquire 201,112 BTC by 2027, spending over $21 billion at current market value. This follows on from an earlier announcement of the intention to reach 100,000 BTC holdings by 2026.

Metaplanet’s all-out growth plan mimics actions from other corporations to increase their reserve holdings of Bitcoin. Block Exchange in Norway opened up its treasury for BTC and saw its shares increase over 138% on the same day.

Nakamoto Holdings also recently secured $51.5 million, and K33 will utilize new fundraising to pick up 1,000 BTC. French-based Blockchain Group augmented its reserves to 1,728 BTC after an addition of 182 BTC valued at $19.6 million.

Parataxis Holdings established a Bitcoin treasury platform to give institutions exposure in South Korea. This increasing trend indicates firm institutional belief in the future role of Bitcoin in corporate treasury strategies worldwide.
