The BNB Chain community is taking a stand against exploitative MEV, urging users to report aggressors, boycott insecure RPCs, use MEV-guarded wallets, and vote out colluding validators. There is a scheduled 2025 memory pool update that will inhibit front-running. The Feb. 7, 2025, proposed update, with 99.93% approval and 0.07% rejection, is near-universally supported and will wrap voting on Feb. 14
Collective responsibility in tackling MEV exploits
Malicious MEV has been plaguing the BNB Chain for a long time, undermining its fairness and efficiency. Millions have been drained from retail traders, namely the altcoin community. The hackers, via sandwich attacks, manipulate orders to extract value at the cost of innocent users. Well, understanding such a threat, the community now expects a firm commitment to eliminating such exploits. It will restore trust in the network.
The proposal also puts a strong focus on a coordinated effort and puts a spotlight on the role of key infrastructure participants. Validators, builders of blocks, RPC nodes, and decentralized programs must all contribute in curbing such manipulative actions.
Additionally, validators, being at the core of processing transactions, must be at the forefront of ensuring transactions are processed transparently. By eradicating rogue actors and imposing stringent security protocols, they aim to provide a field for all parties utilizing the network.
BNB Chain security measures
A core feature of the proposal is to sanction operators of abusive MEV behavior. By isolating rogue builders and ejecting unscrupulous validators, the community seeks to disincentive exploitative behavior. However, as an added feature, a new 2025 BEP (BNB Evolution Proposal) will enhance mempool security, reducing transaction exposure. Also minimizing the chance for hackers to manipulate transactions before confirmation.
