ZetaChain has introduced Gateway, a new feature enabling seamless connections between any blockchain, including Bitcoin. This upgrade aims to simplify user experience and accelerate development within the ZetaChain ecosystem.
According to a July 18 blog post, ZetaChain’s Gateway and Localnet improvements enhance the development experience for Universal Apps – smart contracts on ZetaChain’s EVM that can interact natively with any connected blockchain. Gateway is a key component of the ongoing ZetaChain 2.0 upgrades.
The new Gateway system allows users to access apps from any chain supported by ZetaChain without switching networks. Developers can deploy once and reach users across multiple blockchains. This hub-and-spoke model simplifies managing assets and data from various chains compared to complex point-to-point messaging systems.
Gateway introduces a unified API for externally owned accounts and apps on connected chains to efficiently interact with Universal Apps, send tokens, and handle gas queries. This enables complex multi-step operations across different blockchains in a single transaction.

For example, a user could send Bitcoin to a Universal App on ZetaChain, lock it in a vault, provision USDC, and then swap it for another token on Ethereum – all in one click. This level of interoperability aims to streamline cross-chain interactions for both users and developers.
ZetaChain integration with Polygon and Solana
ZetaChain is actively enhancing its network by integrating with Polygon on the testnet and soon on the mainnet. Additionally, the team is developing Solana integration, with plans to introduce it on the testnet in the near future.
Moreover, ZetaChain has recently introduced a new local environment to enhance development processes. This innovation facilitates quick deployment and testing of contracts with almost instant transaction completion. As a result, developers can now efficiently create and evaluate Universal Apps as if working on a single chain.
The unveiling of Gateway marks a key milestone in ZetaChain’s ambition to offer seamless and widespread blockchain access. By facilitating direct links between various networks, ZetaChain seeks to expedite the expansion of its ecosystem, which boasts a community of over 270 dApp collaborators.
