Tigran Gambaryan, a senior executive at Binance, officially ended his time with the company on June 6, 2025. He confirmed his resignation months after Nigerian authorities released him in October 2024, following a long detention.

Gambaryan joined Binance during a period of significant evolution within the cryptocurrency industry. At that time, the company did not have a dedicated investigations team. He was instrumental in building and scaling that team from its inception.

The team grew to over 150 people during his tenure. Most had previous experience in federal law enforcement, legal representation, and financial analysis. For the next four years, the investigative team partnered with police agencies and regulatory bodies worldwide.

It handled thousands of cases regarding cybercrime, fraud, and terrorism financing. In the team’s first year of operation, it responded to more than 57,000 requests from law enforcement agencies. The results were significant arrests of criminals, asset seizures, and prosecutions.

Binance legacy fighting crime with crypto

One case helped Thai law enforcement dismantle a $270 million fraud scheme targeting victims in Thailand and the U.S. Another case involved tracking cryptocurrency wallets linked to ISIS, which resulted in arrests and the breaking off of financial support to terrorist networks.

They also helped the Nigerian authorities recover over $400,000 in illicit funds and trained dozens of agents in blockchain investigative techniques. Gambaryan said he accomplished what he set out to do at Binance.

He will soon seek new opportunities that would allow him to continue his mission. He hopes to operate at the intersection of digital assets, finance, and security. Public service or a purpose-driven private company would be ideal for him to bring his experience into.

New paths in crypto compliance

His departure marks the end of a significant era for Binance’s compliance efforts but also signals the beginning of a new chapter in his life, one in which he will continue to develop trust between technology and regulation.

The crypto space is so dynamic that practitioners with such hands-on experience may become increasingly important in bridging the divide between innovation and regulation.

Gambaryan thanked those who helped him and his family during his detention. He said their support was crucial during that tough time. He also made it clear that he intends to return to duty very soon, no matter where the next challenge takes him.
