Holonym Foundation is making a big move in digital identity. The team has acquired Gitcoin Passport, a well-known identity verification platform. This step aligns with Holonym’s goal of giving people control over their digital identities without relying on institutions.
The foundation has been working to make zero-knowledge identity accessible. It has tackled major challenges like client-side proving, unlinkable credentials, and deepfake-resistant proof of personhood. Now, it is launching human.tech, a platform that upgrades Gitcoin Passport with privacy-focused credentials.
Moreover, human.tech gives users ownership over their digital identities. It embeds cryptography into financial networks, making online coordination more secure. CEO Shady El Damaty said this move is a major step in protecting digital human rights.
Gitcoin Passport rebrands as Human Passport
Gitcoin Passport is rebranding as Human Passport. It will integrate human.tech to provide privacy-first, Sybil-resistant identity verification. This system is set to issue up to 34.5 million credentials, surpassing other identity protocols.
Holonym’s approach does not require expensive hardware. It also allows identity verification through web accounts, government IDs, biometrics, and on-chain activity. This flexibility ensures easy access for users worldwide.
Human Passport has already unlocked over $225 million in grants and airdrops across 140 campaigns. It will continue supporting fair token distributions and aid programs, proving its value beyond the crypto sector.
Gitcoin’s CEO, Kevin Owocki, said:
With human.tech taking the helm, Passport is evolving into something even greater: an identity layer that champions human dignity, privacy, and verifiable trust on the internet. This transition strengthens our shared mission to build open, decentralized systems that serve people first.”
human.tech enables private & secure online identity proofs
The project is built on the Human Network, formerly Mishti Network. This system uses Ethereum staking to secure identity proofs while maintaining privacy. Its VOPRF function prevents traceability and double-spending, ensuring strong protection against bots and fraud.
However, with this technology, users can verify their identities online without compromising privacy. Whether for banking, civic status verification, or activism, human.tech provides a secure foundation.
Well, Holonym invites developers and organizations to explore its tools. The goal is to create a future where digital rights are embedded in everyday technology. The team encourages collaboration and welcomes users to join its Telegram and Bluesky communities for updates.
