OKX has announced a significant grant to the Bitcoin Developer Foundation, known as the 2140 Foundation. This initiative aims to enhance the long-term security and resilience of the Bitcoin network.

OKX claims to already have supplied close to $2 million in developer grants since 2019. The OKX Independent Foundation will focus on developing the developer ecosystem, Bitcoin security, and further adoption.

As per the press release, Ruben Somsen and Josie Baker, the founders, announced the grant during Bitcoin Amsterdam 2024, a prominent event held at Westergas in Amsterdam. They highlighted its role in fostering collaboration and innovation among developers.

The funds will be used to fund a multi-year initiative to improve Bitcoin’s maintainability. As such, the exchange has heralded the promotion by announcing a €50 BTC signup bonus for new customers in the Netherlands, where trading at least €100 in crypto occurs during Bitcoin Amsterdam week, Oct. 7th to Oct. 13.

OKX commitment to fostering the Bitcoin ecosystem

This allows more participation in the cryptocurrency space while showing OKX’s commitment to the Dutch market. The Regional Manager of OKX Western Europe and Mediterranean, Roy van Krimpen, voiced excitement about the grant. He noted:

This grant to the 2140 Foundation underscores our longstanding commitment to fostering the Bitcoin ecosystem and backing innovative projects that expand Bitcoin’s utility.

Since OKX launched its exchange and on-chain wallet in the Netherlands, more than 170 different types of cryptocurrencies have been made available for Dutch customers via spot trading and conversion services.

Users, among other benefits, enjoy free and instant deposits and withdrawals of Euros with integrated iDEAL and SEPA. OKX Wallet gives full custody over more than 100 chains to users of digital assets.

However, OKX has continuously supported Bitcoin’s development by adding what they have called the integration of the Lightning Network towards faster BTC transactability and also being active in the promotion of new standards such as Runes and Fractal Bitcoin.
