A new Emerson College survey reveals that 19% of US voters have engaged with crypto by investing, trading, or using it. Among these, 39% have made purchases with crypto, while 61% have not. This highlights crypto users as a growing and diverse group in the political landscape.
Executive director of Emerson College Polling, Spencer Kimball, added that less than half and younger dominate the crypto space. Among voters under 40, nearly one-third have used crypto, while just 4% of those over 70 have.
According to the poll, men are twice as likely to use crypto as women, at 26% compared with 13%. Among racial groups, 33% of Asian, Hispanic, and Black voters have used crypto, while only 14% of white voters reported the same.
The survey also explored voter views on tariffs. Most respondents believe additional tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China will harm the US economy. Over half said tariffs on Canada and Mexico would hurt, and 49% said the same about China.
Political implications of crypto users’ growing influence
However, Trump voters largely support tariffs, with 69% seeing China tariffs as beneficial. In contrast, 79% of Harris voters think such tariffs hurt the economy.
President Biden’s job approval stands at 36%, with 54% disapproving. Opinions on his pardon of Hunter Biden are divided: 52% oppose it, 28% support it, and 19% remain unsure. Regarding Trump, 50% of voters oppose his potential pardons for January 6 participants, while 34% support them. 4O% of the voters favor the upcoming ban on TikTok, and 30% are against it. The younger voters are more in opposition to it.
To a further question, 68% of the voters condemn the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Among the younger voters, however, the opinions are divided. 41% of 18-29 year olds find the actions acceptable to some extent.
The poll judged early recognition of potential candidates in 2028. In this survey, the favorites are Mark Cuban, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Pete Buttigieg. Among political independents, Cuban is decidedly a standout, while AOC remains highly polarizing.
