As part of a broader trend in the political circle to accept crypto payments for reelection campaigns, U.S. senator Marsha Blackburn becomes the latest politician to embrace digital currencies as donations. This trend marks a significant demand for digital assets in America despite President Joe Biden’s unfavored stance on the blockchain industry.
The senator confirmed the initiative through its official blog post and has launched a dedicated page where the party’s workers can donate funds in Bitcoin and altcoins. Apart from Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and Litecoin are the other altcoin contributors who can choose to donate, as per the newly proposed page. Similarly, Marsha enables crypto donations in collaboration with the payments firm BitPay.
While speaking on the acceptance of digital assets as a reliable financial technology, Marsha Blackburn noted in a statement;
Our campaign is committed to meeting supporters where they are. As many Americans utilize digital currencies for everyday transactions, we are excited to take this next step and stay on the cutting edge of the 21st-century digital world.
RNC approved a draft supporting crypto payments
On Monday, Marsh Blackburn chaired a Republican National Committee that approved the 2024 platform draft. The panel overwhelmingly passed the draft that strongly supports the use of Bitcoin in America. Not only that, but the draft also addressed the party’s intentions to end illegal crypto crackdowns in the state, expressing favour for Bitcoin innovations. On page nine of the draft, it reads;
We will defend the right to mine Bitcoin, and ensure every American has the right to self-custody of their digital assets, and transact free from Government Surveillance and Control.
Cryptocurrencies are not only subject to political donations. Last month, United States Representative Matt Gaetz introduced a bill to enable Federal income tax payments in Bitcoin.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump began accepting crypto payments for the election campaigns on the Bitcoin Lightning network in May. Trump, who openly supports virtual assets, also plans to build a crypto army and become president.
