Coinbase announced its partnership with Stablecore on Sept. 16 to connect crypto and stablecoin services with local banks and credit unions across the United States. The arrangement covers digital asset custody, trading, and payments, allowing participating institutions to offer crypto services through their existing banking applications and financial platforms.
Stablecore will act as a bridge between Coinbase’s crypto infrastructure and the banking, digital banking, and compliance systems operated by participating financial institutions. The partnership aims to make crypto services more accessible to customers through familiar banking channels and existing financial platforms.
Stablecore’s technology network connects with over 3,000 U.S. financial institutions, including community banks and credit unions. However, this figure refers to institutions within Stablecore’s existing network and does not indicate that Coinbase services will be launched across all 3,000 institutions at the same time.
Early Bank Rollout and Service Choices
Amarillo National Bank in Texas is one of the first institutions to implement Coinbase and Stablecore technology. The companies have not revealed how many banks and credit unions have completed the deployment or reported transaction data from their early implementations.
The services offered by each institution will depend on its technology, operating model, and compliance requirements. Banks and credit unions will determine whether to provide custody, trading, staking, stablecoin payments, or a combination of these services to their customers.
Stablecore’s connection with more than 3,000 institutions therefore represents the reach of its technology network rather than a confirmed Coinbase rollout across the entire group. Individual institutions will choose whether and how to introduce digital asset services through their own banking platforms.
Coinbase Expands Its Banking Network
The Stablecore partnership follows Coinbase’s September 10 agreement with Moov, which focuses on stablecoin payment infrastructure across a network of over 1,000 community banks and credit unions. Together, the two partnerships connect Coinbase’s digital asset services with established banking and payment infrastructure.
Stablecore’s arrangement covers a broader range of services, including stablecoin payments, staking, crypto trading, and custody. The Moov partnership mainly focuses on stablecoin payments. Both agreements aim to connect Coinbase’s services with financial institutions through their established banking or payment systems.
Banks and credit unions will remain responsible for meeting regulatory and compliance requirements linked to the services they choose to offer. A connection with Coinbase and Stablecore does not automatically authorize an institution to provide every available digital asset service.
