Ripple has joined the Linux Foundation’s x402 Foundation as a Premier Member on July 14, 2026, adding support to work focused on payment standards for AI-powered transactions. Ripple is confirming a larger role in building internet payment systems that allow software agents to complete financial transfers without human input.

The firm said ongoing work on the XRP Ledger gives developers tools for agentic payments through the x402 protocol. AI applications can send and receive payments with XRP and RLUSD, giving automated systems a way to settle transactions across blockchain networks.

According to Ripple, growing use of AI agents in online commerce creates demand for payment methods that work as smoothly as internet data transfers. The company added that support for x402 also includes participation in technical development and governance efforts connected with future payment standards.

XRP Ledger Gains Wider AI Payment Support

Ripple expanded its preparation for AI payment systems before joining the Foundation. In June, the company introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit, giving developers resources to connect AI applications with the XRP Ledger. The package also included support for agentic payments using XRP and RLUSD.

Ripple-backed t54.ai later introduced the XRPL AI Hub with support from Ripple developers and the XRPL Foundation. The platform was created to give developers tools and infrastructure for building AI-powered applications on the XRP Ledger.

Network activity has also increased after x402 support became available. According to the XRPL Foundation, more than one million agentic transactions have already been processed on the XRP Ledger, showing growing developer testing and early use of automated payment workflows.

Ripple Joins Major Companies in Foundation

Ripple became part of a group of Premier Members that includes Google, Visa, Coinbase, Stripe, Circle, Amazon Web Services, Mastercard, Shopify, American Express, Adyen, Cloudflare, Fiserv, the Solana Foundation, the Monad Foundation, the Stellar Development Foundation, and MoonPay.

The Linux Foundation announced the operational launch of the x402 Foundation after Coinbase contributed the x402 protocol. The foundation will oversee future technical work through an open governance model instead of leaving development under one company.

General Members include Polygon Labs, World Liberty Financial, Injective, and the Near Foundation. Associate Members include Casper, OMA3, the Cardano Foundation, the Japanese Contents Blockchain Initiative, and the BSV Association.

Coinbase first introduced x402 as an open payment protocol allowing applications, APIs, and AI agents to exchange digital payments through standard web infrastructure.
