The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is expected to introduce several protocol amendments through validator voting in about two weeks, if the release process continues as planned, according to the Director of XRP Ledger Community Manager, Hussein Zangana, on Monday.
The proposed package includes Permission Delegation, Dynamic MPT features, Batch transactions, Sponsored Fees and Reserves, Confidential Transfers, and a bundled software fix.
A well-known XRPL validator, Vet, said the proposed changes would enter the voting stage after final preparations. The release combines new user features with software updates aimed at improving network performance and reliability. Developers also expect lower memory usage across systems after the new code reaches the network.
Some systems could see memory usage fall by up to 40%, while most machines are expected to record reductions between 10% and 15%. Developers also expect fewer cases of nodes and validators losing synchronization after the release is deployed.
XRP Ledger Package Introduces New Network Features
The package adds several functions to the XRP Ledger. Batch transactions would let several transactions be combined into a single operation. Confidential Transfers would hide transaction amounts while keeping ledger records secure. Sponsored Fees and Reserves, known as XLS-68, would enable third parties to pay fees and reserve requirements for users.
Permission Delegation would allow account holders to assign selected permissions without giving full account control. Dynamic MPT would introduce changes to the Multi-Purpose Token standard. The release also contains a bundled software fix and other code updates aimed at strengthening software quality.
Vet stated that security work had delayed some feature development before the team resumed progress. “Yes, the security initiatives put everything else on hold. We can start resuming,” Vet wrote, describing the package as a “sweet mix” of new features, performance improvements, and fixes.
XRPL Community Debates Future Reserve Requirements
A discussion has also started among the XRPL community about reserve requirements. Vet does not support lowering reserves under current conditions. He pointed to earlier changes, including the reduction from a thousand XRP during the “create fee” era to 200 XRP in 2013 by co-founder Jed McCaleb.
Over time, validators reduced reserve levels several times. Currently, activating an XRP Ledger account requires a 1 XRP base reserve. Vet said he had backed earlier reductions but believes memory and storage continue to be important network resources as demand for computing infrastructure increases.
Ripple, JPMorgan, Mastercard, and Ondo also completed the first cross-border settlement of tokenized U.S. Treasuries on the XRP Ledger. The transaction was completed in under five seconds, showing the network’s ability to handle transfers of tokenized financial assets.
